August Newsletter

Dear Member

We hope this newsletter finds you well. It's been a busy few weeks preparing for the new season ahead, with teams from all sections working hard at pre-season. Here's a round up from around the club.

From the Coaches

Pre season training has been going really well lots of new faces and some old faces returning to training.

The integration with the colts has been a huge success so far with a number of them attending training and making their faces known to the coaches.

We had 2 Pre season games. First game was against Southport, our local neighbours, and both sides were boosted with lots of young, talented players playing their first senior game. Coaches were very impressed in how the players displayed what they had been practicing in training and keeping out a very good Southport side for long periods of the game.

The 2nd game was a memorial game in memory of Taff. Again, lots of young players from ormskirk who didn’t look out of place in senior rugby playing in the spirit of what Taff was all about.

This weekend sees Ormskirk take on De La Salle in the first round of the Lancashire Cup. 3pm kick off - please come down and support the lads!

From the Ladies

Recruitment is still a big focus for the Ormskirk Ladies team with several new players joining through the summer.

An enthusiastic Ladies team played a closely fought out loss against Lampeter Ladies touring team which was followed by a very enjoyable afternoon of rugby companionship and singing.

Training has been well-organised and has run every Thursday throughout August.

Following the AGM it was decided that a Ladies rep would join the board, therefore we are pleased to announce the appointment of Sophie Rogers.

We are always looking for players old and new, regardless of experience. If you know anyone interested in playing please let Sophie Rogers or Paris Cooke- Davies know.

From the MJS

The majority of the MJS are well underway with their preseason training, with a number of our older junior teams getting ready for their first match of the season on the 8th of September.

Good luck to all those teams playing on the 8th, especially the u14s, whose first game of the season is a Lancs Cup game!

Most of our MJS teams have now been issued with brand new first aid kit bags that are well stocked with all side-line rugby first aid supplies. Hopefully there will be minimal requirement to use them.

If anyone is interested in being a RFU trained first aider for their team, please contact Hannah Hague, MJS Chair at mjschair@ormskirkrugby.co.uk

The training is fully funded by the Club.

You will also start to notice, as the season begins, our new team “feather flags”. These amazing 3 meter flags clearly indicates the age group, our club badge, and our new club PROUD values. I am sure you will agree they look very smart and gives the club a real professional look!! These flags will be displayed at pitch side when home games are being played, helping players, parents and visitors easily find which pitch they are playing.

We will be holding our annual MJS official registration day on Sunday 8th of September.

We will be launching our new club PROUD values: Passion, Respect, Opportunities, Unity and Dedication.

More information will be available on the 8th.

The club house will be open from 9am and training will start from 9am. Teams who do not have any matches will be down training at the club. This is a great opportunity for new and existing members to register or reafilliate themselves with the club for this season.

The club house will be open with the kitchen serving hot and cold drinks and food. We also hope to have our club shop open to buy for any new “stash” that the players have grown out of over summer! And for any kit or boots that are in still good condition but too small, we will be launching our new “Kit Bench”, exchange for preloved kit and boots.

Finally we are also hoping to get a team of dentists and technicians from our club sponsors Oak Dental, to provide dental moulded gum shields. It is crucial that all players participating in contact rugby wear a gum shield for both training and matches.

Moulds will be taken on the day with the moulds being available to collect approximately 2 weeks later. There will be a charge of approximately £50 per gums shield.

Cheaper “boil in the bag” options are available to buy from sports retailers and online - but often these don’t fit well. The gum shields need to be able to stay fixed to their teeth whilst they talk and not fall out. If it falls out, it’s no good and therefore offers no protection.

From the Bar

By popular request we’ll have a new summer draught cider on sale - Lilley’s Pineapple.

For the Western Night on Saturday 14th September we’ll have special offers on American whiskeys such as Jack Daniel’s and Southern Comfort as well as our bar staff serving trays of shots at good prices.

We also have new membership cards available, when shown at the bar you will receive 10% off your drinks.
